Pitch Bible: Elixir

I'm pretty happy with how this turned out. I wish I could have done more, but the demon paintings were so time-consuming. I loved creating these characters and I will probably use them for another project down the road. It makes me want a class where all you do is make Pitch Bibles.
Well, it's been a great semester and I hate to leave this class. I'll keep posting new work here anyway. I kind of like having a blog.

Signing off,
Chelsea Weickel

Environment 3: A Landscape (Seaside Cliff)

I absolutely love how this one turned out. The perspective was a little weird at first, but when I got into color I fell for the piece.

Environment 2: Interior (Water Tunnel)

I'll probably be re-doing this one. I like how the water looks but the tunnel itself looks awful.

Environment 1: An Exterior (Futuristic City)

Yes, inspired by tron. I tried to keep it simple and sketchy. Environments aren't my strong suit, but I tried.

Vehicle Final Composition

Finally done. I like it overall.

Vehicle Final Composition: WIP Almost There

Now all I have left to do is that grip arm. I like textures. Warping the wood to fit the sides of the boat was tricky but I like the look of it.

Vehicle Final Composition: WIP New Progress

I've played with the background a bit for lighting and I'm liking how it's turning out so far. I need to get the grip arm in there and shade it along with Keid and his boat. I still have a lot to do, but I'm really happy with it.

Vehicle Final Composition: WIP boat sketch

A bit more detail on the boat sketch and the front decor flat color. Still a way to go.

Vehicle Final Composition: WIP Flat Color and Sketch

Still have a long way to go, but it's progress. I lowered the opacity on Keid to show the sketchwork for the boat and engines. After all line and flat color is done, I'll go in with detailing, shading, and textures.

Vehicle Final Composition Sketch 2

I've begun to fill in more of the details like the decoration of the doorway and the back wall. I have some problems to work out with the grip arm. I really want the overall piece to look very antique but futuristic at the same time, kind of an elegant new age feel, so everything will be very intricate. I'm still going to play with the openings in the floor to give them a more appropriate look.

Vehicle Final Composition Sketch

Here's the sketch-up of the final composition. I wanted it to have a kind of calm, relaxed feel. The background will be a lot more decorated as well, to emphasize the fact that he comes from money.

Keid Turn Sheet

Here we have two views of Lord Keid, front 3/4 and rear 3/4. Due to the level of detailing the final piece will require, this is going to have to stay sketchy.

Keid Ideation

Just some ideation sketches for the character portion of the assignment. I think I'll change his face a bit.

Airship Color Concepts

Here's the color concept sheet for the airship. I think I like the "Elegant Aquatic" concept the best. It's on the lower right. On to the character!!!

Airship Ideation Sketches

After a ton of ideations that I wasn't pleased with, I nailed down these three for consideration. I like the top one the best, so next comes the front and side view sketches.
Color concepts coming soon.

image board for vehicle project

Some inspirations for my upcoming elegant aristocrat space pirate, i guess? maybe i'll throw elf in there too, for added ridiculousness. I'm thinking along the lines of fancy flying longboat for the vehicle so I don't have to do a whole ship.

Kid Nightcrawler: Pose Complete

Here it is, Little Nightcrawler stole the remote again. Unfair advantage, I think. I had a lot of fun with this one and it really pushed me to get better.

Kid Nightcrawler: Pose WIP2

Almost finished! A bit more cleanup and contrast, then I'll add the remote, the smoke, and the.....well I'll let that be a surprise.

Kid Nightcrawler: Pose WIP

The "paint-in-progress" phase. The costume will be done in overlays and blending modes so the shadows stay consistant. I like his face.

"I vant to vatch MY show."

Kid Nightcrawler: Pose Sketch

"Professor X!!! Kurt took the remote again!!!"

Kid Nightcrawler: 3 camera turns COMPLETE

Finally done with the three camera views and three costumes. Personally, I like the lederhosen.

Kid Nightcrawler: 3 camera turns WIP

Here's the base for the camera turns and costumes. I had a lot of fun playing with the core shadows. As far as expression goes, the side view is my favorite, but as far a rendering, the back view wins.

Kid Nightcrawler: 3 camera turns SKETCH

Here's little Nightcrawler sketched for his camera turns wearing sketches of his usual costume.

Kid Nightcrawler: Sketches

Some ideation sketches for the child version of nightcrawler. He's probably about seven years old here.

Scary Dog Monster: Now With Expressions!!!

Finally done. I had to do all the expressions twice because of a computer error, but they are done. I may go back and color the expressions out on my own time later, for my own benefit.

Lamprey Mongrel Corpse: Silent Hill Style

Il est fini!!!
This is by far the most realistic photoshop painting I've done. I'm pretty happy with it, but if I met this thing in a dark alley I would probably need a new pair of pants.
Expression Sheet coming soon.

Lamprey Mongrel Corpse: Silent Hill Style WIP 3

Nearly finished with the rendering! A few more adjustments, and I'll be on to the expressions.

Lamprey Mongrel Corpse: Silent Hill Style WIP 2

I've still got a lot to do but it's a step in the right direction. I still want to refine the mouth and bandages then finish it out with texture.

Lamprey Mongrel Corpse: Silent Hill Style

A work in progress of my lamprey mongrel corpse in Silent Hill Style. I still have a long way to go but I think it will turn out. I really enjoyed working on the spine.

Kind of Unrelated But...Well, Animation.

I just felt like posting something from another class. I was really happy with it.

Scary Dog Gestures

I think I'm going to use the last one with the lamprey mouth. I may elongate his body to make him more serpentine.

Dog Anatomy Studies: Paw, Leg, and Skull

A brief study on the skeletal anatomy of a dog's paw, leg, and skull. I find that doing studies like this really help when I'm trying to draw a more realistic character.

Monday, February 7, 2011

....well, um...

So I've been commanded by my teacher and by Seventh Sanctum to create a MONGREL CORPSE in a SILENT HILL style....with an expression sheet. Well here's the reference board of actual dog monsters from the game. ...yeah....
.....I'm afraid.

Niu & Ushi

It was a long and painstaking process, but here they are in full color. I'm debating whether or not to paint the background.

Niu & Ushi WIP Part II

Ah, progress. Photoshop was giving me greif over pen pressure, but I kept at it...hitting ctrl+z....every...other...stroke.....
